In Romans 12:1-2 Paul tells the young believers in Rome to offer themselves as living sacrifices. That must have raised some eyebrows in the early church. A sacrifice by definition was dead. How could they possibly be a ‘Living Sacrifice’? Paul goes on to give comprehensive instructions of how to be a living sacrifice. The writer of Hebrews tells his readers to offer a “sacrifice of praise”. Yet praise doesn’t feel like a sacrifice most Sundays does it?
